Laura Condon Goes Further In Depth About Her Award

As you may already know, Dr. Laura Condon has been selected to receive the prestigious 2025 James B. Macelwane Medal.
It is awarded in recognition of her work, which expanded the way we understand groundwater. It also recognizes her efforts to share this information with the general public and inform public policy.
“This is an award that is not just for hydrologists, it’s across all of earth-sciences,” said Dr. Condon. To her, this award feels like the world recognizing that groundwater is important. “It felt very validating.” Dr. Condon said.
The award selection is reserved for early career scientist, which is something Dr. Condon is passionate about as she works with a lot of undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs
When asked about her advice for early career scientists who can feel overwhelmed, she said the following:
“I think anyone who wants to make a difference in the world, wants to have a life that is purposeful and to be doing something they are passionate about deals with this. You do it by asking yourself questions all the time like, ‘am I doing the right thing?’ ‘Is this the right next step for me?’ and what I tell students I’m advising is, ‘You’re never going to be certain it’s the right step, so you move forward and see how it goes.” – Dr. Laura Condon
