Water Pumping vs. Water Races: Jen McIntosh and HAS Alums Visit the Lineweaver Elementary School Science Fair
Learning about water is fun and exciting with HAS Professor Jen McIntosh! Along with McIntosh, HAS alums Victoria Hermosilla and Colin Kikuchi and HAS undergraduate and College of Science Ambassador Edie Lamar led water races and demonstrated the groundwater flow model.

We at HAS strive to give all students a chance to get involved in hydrology, from doctoral candidates to even students at Lineweaver Elementary School here in Tucson. Our very own Jennifer Mcintosh, along with department alumni Colin Kikuchi and Victoria Hermosillo brought hydrology to last November’s Lineweaver science night.
The last few science nights, Mcintosh and Kikuchi have been bringing hydrology to Lineweaver. This idea was born out of the fact that Mcintosh’s daughter and Kikuchi’s son are part of the same grade at Lineweaver and have similar classes.
This time, they had brought an educational display of a water pump model to display how groundwater works, and a more intricate “water race” display for entertainment. However, according to Mcintosh, the kids were more ecstatic to pump water for the educational display over racing water droplets.
This is why we do the work we do, to see kids and students get excited about the way water works. To show them the science that we already know and inspire them to become scientists themselves.
