Genie Lorenzo HAS Graduate Student Service Award

Congratulations to Genie Lorenzo who was selected as the HAS Department's Outstanding Graduate Student in Service for 2024. Genie was recognized at the College of Science Graduate Student Awards Ceremony on April 16, 2024. Genie is a HAS doctoral student whose work is being supervised by HAS Joint Professor Armin Sorooshian. Her dedication to service was summed up in Sorooshian's letter of nomination:

"Her (Genie's) passion and interest in our air pollution research has been contagious for other members of my group and she has been helping many of my students with various skills such as coding. The one trait that stands out when I think of Genie as compared to all my other past students--19 Ph.D. in total to date including 11 more I currently advise--is how deeply she cares about humanity as demonstrated by her constant efforts to volunteer and help those in need in various strained communities....She has strong credentials, is a wonderful role model from an underrepresented community in STEM, and is very passionate about teaching, research, and especially service."

Some of Genie's many, many service activities include:

  • Science City at the Festival of Books, University of Arizona
  • Science Café Participant “Demonstration on Aerosol Particles and Visibility” (2024)
