The Salt River Project created The Spirit of Tom Meixner Award in 2023 to honor the memory of the late Dr. Tom Meixner, HAS alumnus and former department head. The awardee is chosen from among nominations collected during the annual student research symposium, El Dia del Agua y la Atmosfera.
Attendees at the conference nominate a person who demonstrates throughout the day--through action, words, or attitude--their genuine community spirit. The award of $500 recognizes the individual who best embodies the spirit of El Día, a student-sponsored event that was very important to Tom Meixner.
The inaugural award was made in 2023.
