Marcel G. Schaap
Shantz Building 524
Expertise Hydraulic soil properties and the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system, vadose zone-critical zone transport processes, pore-scale fluid dynamics, dielectric properties of soils and other porous media. Fundamental yet pertinent research at the societal level, i.e. improving carbon dioxide capture and geological sequestration in deep saline aquifers; characterization of deep vadose zones, especially those contaminated with radioactive waste. Schaap teaches undergraduate-level and graduate-level courses in environmental physics. He received the Excellence in Multistate Research Award for the W4188 Group from the USDA WAAESD (Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors) in the Fall Semester 2021.
