HASSA Talk by Louis Uccellini, Former Director, National Weather Service

HASSA Professional Speaker Series

Beginning this month, HASSA will host a speaker series for professionals in atmospheric sciences and hydrology sciences who will make short career presentations. The primary goal is to promote professional development and learning opportunities in our fields. The guest speaker will make a 30-minute presentation followed by 30 minutes of Q&A.

The first speaker of this series will be Dr. Louis Uccellini, former director of the National Weather Service (2013-2021). Prior to that, he was the director of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction for 14 years. He received his Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and chapters in books on subjects which include severe storm outbreaks, snowstorms, gravity waves, satellite data in modeling and analysis applications, and much more! For his talk, Uccellini will highlight his final effort as NWS director which was development of the "Weather Ready Nation" project.
