The HWRS 495A-595A Colloquium is a department-sponsored weekly seminar series which focuses on current topics in hydrology and atmospheric sciences. This seminar series is open to the public. Faculty coordinators serve in rotation to arrange and host the talks. HASSA, the department's student association, hosts the social half hour which precedes each talk.
Both undergraduate and graduate students are required to enroll in HWRS 495A or 595A for at least one semester during academic residency, as the skills observed and learned (and subsequently practiced) from this course are critical components of their professional development as science communicators.
Most talks are scheduled on Thursdays at 4:00 pm, although special talks or events co-hosted by multiple departments may be scheduled on other days/times. Historically, the primary location for these talks has been Harshbarger 206, although room assignment is subject to change every semester.
