Eugene S. Simpson Prize for a Field Project in Groundwater Hydrology

Source: Generous gifts of family and friends in honor of the late Dr. Eugene S. Simpson, former Professor and Head of the University of Arizona Department of Hydrology and Water Resources.

Eligibility:  Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources whose field work is related to groundwater hydrology. The main selection criterion is the quality of the report/paper summarizing the field work and the depth of the interpretation of the results. Applicants should submit to the Departmental academic advising office the following materials:

  • A description of the undergraduate senior research field project or the master's thesis field research project or doctoral dissertation field research project (Minimum 1 page but not more than 3 pages)
  • A report or paper summarizing the fieldwork and interpreting the results
  • A curriculum vitae
  • Two confidential letters of recommendation from the HWR faculty to be submitted directly to the academic advising office in Harshbarger.

Selection: The applications will be reviewed by a committee of senior faculty appointed by the Department Head.

Value:   Number and amount shall vary according to the distribution from the endowment.
