Congratulations all around for Rachel Spinti, HAS BS EHY undergraduate, who has just been selected as the 2019 Arizona Hydrological Society Leonard Halpenny Intern Scholar! She was selected from among a large pool of University of Arizona undergraduate and graduate applicants from various water-related departments.
Spinti is currently studying abroad at Uppsala University in Sweden. Last year she completed a summer internship project with the Pima County Regional Flood Control Distict office which required rainfall and runoff data to quantify the harvestable amount of water from a rooftop. She collaborated with Tucson Water, the Watershed Management Group, and private citizens to obtain data for the project. In the spring semester of 2020, she hopes to begin the Accelerated Master's Program in Hydrology.
Rachel will begin her 200-plus hour internship this summer working with four Tucson-area host organizations: Tucson Water, the U.S. Geological Survey, NV5 Inc., and Montgomery and Associates, Inc. She will receive the Leonard Halpenny award and a plaque in a more formal ceremony to be held in Tucson this September during the Arizona Hydrological Society's Annual Symposium.
