Potential Impacts of Aerosols on a Derecho-producing MCS

This talk is based on the PhD dissertation of Michal Clavner who simulated the 8 May 2009 “Super Derecho”. Using output from the global atmospheric chemistry model, GEOS-Chem, she simulated the storm with RAMS, with no anthropogenic aerosol sources, with anthropogenic sources, and with anthropogenic sources enhanced 5 times. In this talk I examine the simulated impact of aerosols on total precipitation, convective precipitation, and stratiform precipitation. In addition, I examine the impacts of the aerosols on the characteristics and strength of derecho-winds.
